Tips on Writing the Essay with 4 Paragraphs

Writing the essay with four paragraphs is similar to completing a five-paragraph essay: you should have in the introduction, several arguments (one paragraph for each of it), and a conclusion. However, while usually, the teachers ask you to write at least three body paragraphs, here you limited to only two of them. When can this type of essay be used? Usually, you will have to write a 4 paragraph essay when you have two points or issues to discuss in brief: for instance, when you should write about two sides of one phenomenon or compare/contrasts some issues. Regardless of the aim, here are a few tips you can follow while writing the essay:

  • Be concise

You have only four paragraphs to develop your ideas, so don’t write a lot. Try to make your paragraphs concise yet informative so that the essay could quickly explain the idea to the reader.

  • Avoid generalizations

You could write something general for the paper with ten pages. However, having only 2-3 pages to write your thoughts on, you should go straight to the point from the very beginning.

  • Include a thesis statement and topic sentences

A thesis statement is essential for any essay. Your body paragraphs should start with topic sentences, which aim to indicate what will be discussed further clearly. You can consider them as small thesis statements for each paragraph.
